Into His Image (Lord make my life to be like the man of Galilee)

I learned this song way back in the '70's. We have never been able to find any copyright info for the song, but the prayer continues to ring true as a genuine desire of God's children to be like Jesus.

UPDATE (April 14, 2017)

A few years after posting this song on Youtube I got a phone call from a gentleman named Peter Hildebrand who had viewed this online version and realized he knew the author. Shortly after this I was in touch with his friend Tom Cowan by email. Tom shared the story of creating the song while working with Camp Widjiitiwin one summer which was the youth camp for Muskoka Bible Camp north of Toronto. He wrote Into His Image as a theme song for that season, expecting that would be the extent of its use. However, after making the rounds of the various camps that year, it stuck around and began appearing in youth groups in various places.

Tom was in his early 70’s at the time he wrote me (February 2017) and had been in pastoral ministry for almost 50 years. This included ministry in Fellowship Baptist churches, an independent Bible church, and other Baptist churches as well. I had first heard the song in the late 1970’s while in Bible College when I was asked to bring my guitar and help a college buddy in his youth ministry. It must have become a favorite at our college as well (Northwest Baptist Theological College) as others from there have asked about the song.
