KOIO and COMMON PROJECTS Alternatives | Best Minimalist Sneakers

Koio and Common Projects make some of the most popular minimalist sneakers, but are there some better budget options? Definitely.

In today's video, I share my favorite Koio and Common Projects alternatives.

While Koio shoes are reasonably priced when stacked against Common Projects, the 200 dollar plus range is a bit steep for many folks.

That’s why today I’ve put together a list of 4 amazing Koio alternatives so you can get that classic minimalist look without putting a heavy dent in your wallet.

So here they are:

#1: GREATS
The GREATS Royale offers, in my opinion, the biggest bang for your buck in this category.

They’re made in Le Marche, Italy---the same region as Common Projects. Some even suggest that they’re made in the same factory, but I can’t confirm that’s true.

The Royale has a comfortable natural rubber Margom sole, and both the upper and lining are made with full-grain leather.

Compared to Koio, the Royale has a slightly taller and marginally chunkier profile, but these have quickly become my go-to minimalist sneaker.

GREATS offers a broad range of colorways, and while they don’t have anything like Koio’s soft pink sneaker, they deliver all the classics.

I first picked up the all white and loved them so much, I decided to go with grey, too.

These pair super well with chinos and jeans, and I’ve even been wearing them with shorts now that summer is almost here and we’re starting to feel 90 degree weather.

Again, that’s the GREATS Royale, and they’re my favorite minimalist white sneaker. At the moment, these go for about $180, which is a good $70 less expensive than Koio. The looks and quality are on point, too.

#2 Everlane Tread
Everlane recently put out a court sneaker that I’ve been loving.

The Tread Court Sneaker is made with less waste, less energy, and less virgin plastic. And Everlane buys carbon credits to offset the greenhouse gases released in shipping and running their HQ.

I picked this up with a gum sole rather than the pure white, though they have that option available, too. The upper is full grain leather from an eco-friendly tannery in Saigon.

While the court sneaker isn’t as purely minimalist as Koio or GREATS, the designs aren’t too flashy, especially if you go all white, or white with a gum sole like I did. These are under $100 which is a fantastic value.

Just like the GREATS Royale, these are super versatile. I’m partial to wearing them with chinos, but they look fantastic with jeans. Everlane’s court sneaker offers a much lower profile than their Trainer, which you can see is quite chunky.

While the Trainer is driven more by what’s fashionable at the moment, the Court Sneaker has more timeless style.

#3 Beckett Simonon Reid
Beckett Simonon could very well be my #1 pick because their shoes and boots are made with beautiful Argentinian full grain leather. Beckett Simonon does an incredible job at offering luxury quality at a very reasonable price.

The Reid goes for $150, which puts it at the same price point as GREATS. Beckett Simonon does make all of their shoes to order which is how they keep their prices low. The downside is that it can take eight weeks for your shoes to show up.

If you’re looking for the best quality at the lowest price and you don’t mind waiting up to two months, consider the Beckett Simonon Reid.
Last on my list at #4 is Oliver Cabell Low 1
Again, we’re seeing another sneaker that offers all of the same benefits and details as Common Projects, but under 50% the cost.

Italian full grain leather, margom soles---Oliver Cabell even has their brand logo embossed in gold so you get that full Common Projects effect. At just under $200, the Low 1 sits between Koio and GREATS.

#5 Rag + Bone RB1 Low
As a bonus, I’d like to toss in Rag + Bone’s RB1 Low sneaker. This sneaker is about $50 more expensive than the Koio Capri, but I felt like it should be mentioned because it has a different silhouette and profile than the other shoes on this list.

The quality is superb and I love that the sole is taller and thicker here. I reach for my all white GREATS more often, because I think the thinner sole goes better with most outfits, but sometimes the thicker, platform sole is the perfect unique touch.
