Burnum Amfiteatar
Hidden in the bosom of the Dalmatian hinterland, in stone and karst, overgrown with raw maquis, is the pearl of ancient history, the Roman military camp Burnum. It was built at the transition from the old to the new era, in a position from which the crossing over the river Krka was monitored. Burnum was the seat of the XI. legions of the Roman army Claudiae Piae Fidelis and IV. legions of Flaviae Felix. Auxiliary units (cohorts) were also housed in it, for which a small camp was built in the eastern part. Visitors can see the arches of the command building in the camp, the only military amphitheater in Croatia and several walls of the military training ground. Archaeological excavations from this site (weapons, tools, objects for everyday use) are exhibited at the Burnum Archaeological Collection at the Krka Eco Campus in Puljani, opened in 2010. The site and the archaeological collection are open to visitors throughout the year.
