Cpt. 6 - Alone - DnD5e Play through - Adventures of the Windswift

The Order of Hastari, as it has been for 350 years, is gone. Inside the engine of each of their ships lurked a horrifying danger: a tiny portal to the realm where the dragons had been banished. At first it seemed only to provide power enough to make their ships fly, but after the leadership of the Order was threatened, it was used for far more sinister ends. By unknown means, every single ship was detonated and completely destroyed, except the Windswift, whose Captains had the engine dismantled weeks ago, upon learning of the dragon portals.

All this happened because the Captains confronted the Lord Archon in his office about the use of dragon powers, something the Order's very first rule forbids. The Lord Archon, injured, fled down a staircase, at the bottom of which laid a full-sized dragon, very much real. Faced with such an impossibility, the Captains could at first only stare in horror as the Dragon spoke to them, claiming that its kin was never banished, but merely decided to withdraw and wait until the rebellious mortal races were weakened by infighting, and they could once again rule the world unopposed.

Only thanks to the mysterious Dancing Stones, artefacts from a long-dead race somehow connected to the dragons, did our heroes escape at all, and upon returning to the surface they find themselves reunited with a Windswift which has only barely escaped intact.

In the end, they had lost two people: Naxun, the ship's first mate, and Captain Blaxton Rose. Deep, terrible losses, but only the first in a long, bloody conflict with those that believe them to be traitors responsible for the death of the Order.
