Hacking Inner Dynamo: Fuel Your Future, Storm-Proof Your Soul | Dr. Kalpana Kharade | TEDxYouth@LPHS
In this engaging and relatable talk, Dr. Kalpana Kharade introduces the idea of an “inner dynamo” — the source of energy, drive, and purpose that powers our lives beyond grades and achievements.
Using metaphors from gaming, music, and everyday student experiences, she explains how this inner dynamo can be charged through purposeful goals, balanced energy, and a playful yet sincere approach to life. She reminds us that success without happiness leads to burnout, and that true strength lies in harmony — between academics, health, relationships, and joy.
Dr. Kharade also addresses life’s inevitable challenges — failure, stagnation, unfair comparisons, and loneliness — reframing them not as breakdowns, but as moments for learning, rebooting, and reconnecting. She emphasizes the importance of community, resilience, and focusing on what we can control: effort, integrity, and attitude.
Ending with a powerful mantra — “Be heroic, not hopeless” — she leaves the audience with a reminder that life is not meant to be perfect on the first try. It is meant to be lived, upgraded, and embraced with courage, balance, and lightness of spirit.
Dr. Kalpana Kharade is a nationally recognised educator, researcher, and powerful advocate for inclusive education. Despite being 100% visually impaired, she has emerged as an inspiring leader in the field of teacher education and accessibility-driven pedagogy.
She currently serves as the Vice Principal of K. J. Somaiya Comprehensive College of Education, Training and Research (KJSCCETR) and is an Adjunct Associate Professor and Ph.D. guide at Somaiya Vidyavihar University. She is also a visiting faculty member at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.
With deep expertise in teacher training, language education, and inclusive pedagogy, Dr. Kharade has designed innovative learning modules for visually challenged students, including science education frameworks. A passionate mentor to marginalized learners, she has led personality development and English language programs for visually impaired girls and vernacular-medium students.
Her contributions have been recognised through numerous prestigious honours, including the National Role Model Award (2014) conferred by the President of India, the Hirkani Award, Distinguished Educationist Award, and the Woman Champion for Change Award, among others.
Dr. Kharade’s life and work powerfully affirm her belief:
“Vision — not sight — makes a good teacher.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
