R100,000 Penalty Plan as South Africa Tightens Crackdown on Illegal Employment

The South African government has proposed strict new penalties targeting the employment of undocumented migrants, with fines of up to R100,000 per first offence and up to R1 million or 10% of annual turnover for repeat violations, as Deputy Minister Jomo Sibiya outlines plans to expand enforcement capacity and strengthen inspections across key economic sectors including agriculture, hospitality and construction.
