What's the Best Pouring Medium? Beginner Questions Liquitex Pouring Medium, GAC-800 or Floetrol?
Welcome to Exploring Mediums for Poured Fluid Acrylic. I am doing a side by side experiment of Liquitex Pouring Medium, Flood Floetrol and GAC-800.
I'm weighing all the materials and pouring them all on one canvas at the same time. There are is one standard craft paint, one metallic craft paint and one student grade acrylic. The paints are all budget conscious and they are all great for pouring!
The Mediums or Medium alternative put through exactly the same preparation trying to remove randomness from the experiment. What do you think? Are you surprised by the outcome?

Setup and Materials:
9x12 basic pre-gessoed stretched canvas
Artist Tape to divide the canvas for the test sectors.
***** Please Note Product Links in the description are all Amazon Affiliate Links and I will earn a small commission if you chose to make a purchase--(I only put links on products that I actually have purchased myself through Amazon)
I Use a scale to measure my paint, and mediums. It is more accurate and consistent to use a scale and way faster! Digital Kitchen scale Amazon Affiliate Link: http://amzn.to/2vwkrK4
I used a new little plastic cup for each color and medium mixture. Little plastic cups are great if you are saving leftover paints. (I purchased mine at a local Restaurant supply store called Cash and Carry-- It is open to the public- no membership required)
You can use small paper water cups if you are not going to try and save the paint. Paper cups will fall apart more quickly.
You will also need some craft sticks and a pair of gloves to to make it easier to keep your hands clean.
On to the Recipes!
Put your cup on the scale press the button to set the scale to zero and follow the measurements as you add each item to a cup for each color.
All of the colors were mixed in a ratio of 4 parts Medium to 1 part Paint.
For this experiment I used: 20 grams of a Medium (Liquitex Pouring Medium OR Floetrol (for Latex paint) OR Golden GAC-800) and 5 grams paint NO water.

Liquitex Pouring Medium 1 gallon is the best price per ounce (the Price Jumped right after I made the video!!)- Amazon Affiliate Link:http://amzn.to/2uqrmEl
Golden GAC-800 - 1 quart is the best price per ounce I could find Amazon Affiliate Link: http://amzn.to/2uqPUgD
There's no silicon oil or torching in my projects as I really worry about the possible side effects of heating the acrylic paints and the materials they are made from. I'm also concerned with the possible issues down the line with the paint not forming a good bond with the surface because of the oils preventing proper adhesion.
We all have to weigh the pros and cons of how we interact with our art supplies. Experimenting can be exciting and beautiful, but there can be consequences we don't know about yet. As with any thing in life be informed by reputable sources and your own common sense. :)
I have a creative spirit that loves to explore and experiment with all kinds of Arts and Craft! I hope you have fun while you join me on my creative adventures!
The most important things you need to be successful with any of my creative projects are the willingness to learn and to be easy on yourself as you are learning. We tend to be our worst critics and we need to learn to be kind to ourselves.
