Roosevelt Island, A New York City Hidden Gem

A day trip to Roosevelt Island is the perfect getaway from the madness of New York City. This is a small island nestled in the East River between Manhattan and Queens. I spent the afternoon exploring the island with my son. We really enjoyed the view of Manhattan and the East River from over there. The parks on the island are really nice, especially the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park. You can also visit the Smallpox Hospital ruins, and check out the modern architecture of the Cornell Tech Campus among other things.

Getting there is really easy, from Manhattan you can catch the tram from 59th Street (Roosevelt Island Tramway) and it is $3.00 each way. The ride is only about 5 minutes, but it over offers some spectacular views. Check out the vlog!
