How To Add An SSD To A Laptop - And Keep HDD

How To Add An SSD To A Laptop, especially as a second drive and keep HDD and convert it into a storage drive? In this tutorial we are removing the DVD Drive and using a Hard Drive Caddy Adaptor to add the second SSD Drive. We are installing a fresh Windows 10 on the SSD as main boot drive, and deleting all the partitions from the old drive and convert it into a storage drive.

Some partitions cannot be deleted from the Disk Management feature in Windows, as the delete volume options is greyed out, so we are using CMD (Command Prompt) to delete the partitions and then reformatting the drive as a mains storage drive

The laptop is the Lenovo Ideapad 320 15AST. I also show you how to remove the back cover or how to disassemble the Lenovo Ideapad 320 15AST

Right click Windows Start Menu, select Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Type CMD in search bar (you will need administrator privileges)

(Note: The - below is meant to be Angled brackets, these are not allowed in description)

Type Diskpart

Diskpart-

Type "list disk"

Diskpart-List Disk

Type "select disk 7" (disk number you want to delete)

Diskpart-select disk 7

Disk 7 is now the selected disk.

Type "list partition"

Diskpart-list partition

Type "select partition 1" (partition number you want to delete)

Partition 1 is now the selected partition.

Type "delete partition override"

Diskpart-delete partition override

Diskpart successfully deleted the selected partition.

Repeat for each partition, you can use up arrow key to retrieve previous command and change numbers as necessary.
