Can Materials Store Energy While Deforming? | 30 Day MATLAB Challenge #5 #matlab #mathworks

Can materials actually store energy while deforming?

In Day 5 of my 30 Day MATLAB Challenge, I explored strain energy visualization using MATLAB and learned how the area under the stress–strain curve represents stored energy inside a material.

Using numerical integration with trapz() and visualization using fill(), I calculated and displayed the strain energy density from a stress–strain curve.

📌 Topics Covered:
• Stress–strain relationships
• Strain energy density
• Trapezoidal numerical integration
• trapz() in MATLAB
• fill() visualization
• Area under curve interpretation

📚 Equation Used:

U = ∫σ dε

🛠️ Tools Used:
MATLAB R2026a

This series is my attempt to learn MATLAB through Mechanical Engineering concepts and computational simulations — one project at a time.
