Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 and was an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Dubbed the "King of Pop" he was one of the most popular entertainers in the world, and was the best-selling music artist at the time of his death.Jackson's contributions to music, dance, and fashion along with his publicized personal life made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.

The eighth child of the Jackson family, Michael made his professional debut in 1964 with his elder brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the Jackson 5. He began his solo career in 1971 while at Motown Records. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. His music videos, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller" from his 1982 album Thriller album which is the best selling album of all time it is credited for breaking racial barriers and transforming music forever. The videos all have close to 700 million views on Youtube and if Youtube was a thing in the 80s these videos would probably have billions of views. The popularity of these videos helped bring the television channel MTV to fame. Jackson's 1987 album Bad spawned the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror", and "Dirty Diana", becoming the first album to have five number-one singles in the nation. His "Bad Tour" became one of the most successful tours in History. He continued to innovate with videos such as "Remember The Time" and "Scream" throughout the 1990s and in 1991 he released the "Dangerous" album which had hits like "Black or White" and "Heal The World". He forged a reputation as a touring solo artist with world tour's such as the "The Dangerous Tour" and "The HIStory Tour". Michael Jackson's “You Are Not Alone” was the second single released from the album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I, and became the first single to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, topping the chart on this date in 1995. His 1995 song "They Don't Care About Us" has almost 700 million views on Youtube and was a massive hit in Europe. Through stage and video performances, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. Michael's 1997 "Blood On The Dance Floor" remix album is the best selling remix album of all time. In 2001 Michael's last studio album "Invincible" was released and had hits like "You Rock My World" and "Butterflies". His distinctive sound and style has influenced numerous artists of various music genres. Michael died June 25, 2009 at age 50 from a cardiac arrest while preparing for his comeback tour This Is It which would have started in July of 2009 and would have ended in March of 2010. He would have turned 51 years old in only about two months.
