Forging a SLINGSHOT out of Rusted PLOWSHARE
Honestly, This Slingshot took me endless time to make and that was not easy to make it such beautiful. A lot of people asked me to make Slingshot so i tried to make the most perfect Slingshot that is posible.
Overall Length: 7 inches
Total Weight: 255 grams
All the Processes are below of making this beautiful Slingshot:
Forging:
It took me too much time to prepare and hand forge Plowshare piece into a well shaped steel blank and that was one of my hardest forging ever. I don't have any power hammers so all the forging i did with my hands and turned a plow piece into an well shaped curved metal piece.
Grinding:
I started some of rough grindings on my professional Belt sander and turned the blank into a beautiful workpiece. I also
did a lot of hand sanding to remove the sharp edges and all the roughness of the blank.
v. I made attachment frame holes with a help of power drill.
v. Made chamfers on all attachment holes to remove burrs.
v. Hand Sanded the surface to remove roughness.
Hardness:
There is a professional way to anneal a
Slingshot and that is
Heating evenly the whole surface placed into a Fire to a critical temperature and instead of quenching the heated detail into oil we leave it to cool slowly in air. Now steel is more soft and looses it's fragility. Air tempering is the best way to increase Toughness and Strength of the Slingshot.
Rubber Band:
This piece traditionaly made of flat vulcanized natural rubber or equivalent material such as silicone rubber tubing. And the purpose of rubber band is to join two slingshot ends and launch the projectile (ball).
Main Parts:
Totally consists of 3 parts:
Steel Frame: Is the main part of the product to which all other parts are attached.
Pouch: Intended to hold the lead ball or any other projectile before launch.
Handle: Handle consists of two ergonomic scales which are tightly attached to the frame, so nothing should vibrate.
