X-ray reveals 2,200 years old text by mathematics genius Archimedes

Archimedes (287-212 BC), who is famous for shouting 'Eureka' (I found it) is considered one of the most brilliant thinkers of all times. A 10th-century parchment document known as the "Archimedes Palimpsest" is the unique source for two of the great Greek's 2,200 years old treatises. Some of the writings, covered by 20th century forged paintings, have recently been revealed at SSRL, SLAC's synchrotron using its intense x-ray beam. Please join us in this fascinating journey of a 1,000-year-old parchment from its origin in the Mediterranean city of Constantinople to a particle accelerator in California. History, Mathematics and science are mixed in this approachable lecture with a tint of humor by Uwe Bergmann, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. #SLACPublicLecture
