Why Mindset Is More Important Than Experience

In this video, I discuss why having the right mindset is more important than having years of experience, or looking the part when it comes to growing your personal training business.

Many trainers believe that the reason they struggle to get clients is because they haven't been in the business long enough to gain experience, and build a reputation.

I have also heard from trainers that despite having a level 3 personal training qualification, they still feel underqualified and unable to get clients to choose them, and pay what they want to charge because they haven't got further qualifications under their belt.

This all stems from the desire to have people who are interested in personal training coming to you, versus you taking the initiative to find and help people that need it.

I'll admit I've fallen for this trap before. Once upon a time, I wanted people to come to me and choose me over the other trainers at that gym, and I believed in the delusion so much that I even went through the monumental task of entering and preparing myself for a bodybuilding competition to 'boost my reputation'.

After the 12 weeks of training twice per day and hard dieting was complete I won my medals, got my professional photos done, and realised I had fewer clients than ever before.

In the gym having a reputation is far less important than just being hungry to help people. I had to learn the hard way but it really is that simple. Stop running away from what needs to be done, and start speaking with members, and take the straight line to success, instead of wasting time, effort, and energy on things that most people won't value as much as you do.

Remember everyone is looking out for themselves. Just find out what people want, and desire, and position your service to help them bridge the gap. That is all you need to grow your personal training business.
