Australia 'stands ready' amid 'absolutely terrible' situation in Tonga
Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews says the situation in Tonga is "absolutely terrible" but Australia stands ready to help.
"Our hearts go out to all of those people who have been affected by it," Ms Andrews told Sky News Australia.
It comes after significant damage is feared to have occurred in Tonga after an underwater volcanic eruption triggered a tsunami on Saturday.
Ms Andrews said it has been made clear that "we are ready to provide the support that Tonga needs".
"Australia stands ready - that's the important thing at this time."
