Israel’s defense minister just said the quiet part out loud: Israel will not withdraw from Lebanon, even if the United States demands it.

That one sentence says everything about the power dynamic Washington refuses to admit.

The U.S. sends the weapons. The U.S. provides the diplomatic cover. The U.S. absorbs the regional backlash. But when Washington supposedly asks Israel to step back, Israel’s answer is basically: no.

So what does American influence actually mean?

If an ally can occupy Lebanese territory, ignore pressure from its biggest backer, and still expect billions in support, then this is not a partnership based on accountability. It is a blank check.

Israel calls it a security zone. Lebanon calls it occupation. And the U.S. keeps pretending it is managing the crisis while being openly defied in public.
