A package arrived from Alberta, a broken Merlin from eBay! Thanks Reimeracres!
I decided to do a transplant. The "new" motherboard definitely didn't power up, and while certain areas look rough, the traces I tested certainly worked. So, given I know my board was good, we did a transplant.
Did it work? Watch and see. It was a bit dramatic.
Dramatic? Well, yeah, I recorded what I did, but for some reason, despite showing the full space on my camera, it only recorded half the image. It was weird. So this part two has two parts.
