Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, an Indian Air Force officer and astronaut, has been awarded the Ashok Chakra—India's highest peacetime gallantry honor—for his pioneering role in the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in June 2025. His historic flight made him the first Indian to reach the ISS, where he spent 18 days conducting experiments that supported India's Gaganyaan program and future space ambitions.
