Here’s your unemployment update for Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021.

I’ve heard from so many of y’all in the comments, and the news is true that yet another cash cliff will be coming our way halfway through the month of March with no further stimulus unemployment actions

In fact, roughly 11.2 million Americans will be driving off a cash cliff on March 14th, which is when the PUA and PEUC extended enhanced unemployment benefits are set to expire

Fortunately, it looks like Congress is going to pass some kind of stimulus package between now and March 14th, much to the delight of millions of struggling Americans that only want a little financial stability.

Hopefully President Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package gets the OK, as those weekly $400 FPUC unemployment benefits would be a blessing to so many people just trying to get by.

Meanwhile, mega corporation Amazon, is being forced to pay $61.7 million to the FTC, which were withheld from employees for over 2 years.

The FTC stated: “Amazon will pay more than $61.7 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it failed to pay Amazon Flex drivers the full amount of tips they received from Amazon customers over a two and a half year period.”

Daniel Kaufman, acting director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, explained: “Rather than passing along 100% of customers’ tips to drivers, as it had promised to do, Amazon used the money itself.”

He continued: “Our action today returns to drivers the tens of millions of dollars in tips that Amazon misappropriated, and requires Amazon to get drivers’ permission before changing its treatment of tips in the future.”

It’s great to see Amazon being forced to pay back the money that they stole from their own employees, and I hope that all my Amazon drivers out there can reclaim the funds that you deserve from delivering us our much needed Prime orders.

Finally, with President Biden negotiating the terms of a new stimulus package containing extended enhanced unemployment benefits with leading Republicans, I thought it would be helpful to offer a rundown of what both sides are pushing for in the upcoming disaster relief bill.

As things currently stand, the Republican lawmakers want to extend extra unemployment benefits at $300 through the end of June.

Biden, on the other hand, aims to increase the weekly FPUC unemployment benefit to $400, and extend it through September.

While I’d love to see Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package get the stamp of approval, if we can avoid another cash cliff with $300 benefits through June, that sounds alright to me for the time being.
