VP Leni, In Kind Donations Update

HIGHLIGHTS:

- VP Leni thanks our generous kababayans who continue to send in-kind donations for families affected by typhoons.

- On fake news about “chicharon” in relief packs: “I wish mayroon kaming chicharon pero wala. Nilagay po namin sa Facebook page namin kung ano ang laman ng bawat isang relief pack. Iyon po iyong laman.” (LOOK: https://www.facebook.com/283945495056459/posts/3382913745159603/?d=n)

- On criticisms for distributing laminated sacks, coco lumber and nipa shingles: VP Leni says these were the requests of LGUs and residents. “Nagbibigay po tayo kasi iyon iyong gusto nila… Pinagtatawanan tayo dahil nagbigay tayo ng mga nipa—iyon po iyong gusto ng tao. Kahit iyong mga mayors na kausap natin, iyon iyong pakiusap. Kahit po iyong mga barangay captains iyon iyong gustong-gusto.” VP Leni also emphasizes the practicality of the said materials given the circumstance on the ground, and that these are initial or temporary assistance, especially since evacuation centers also incurred damage. For example, the laminated sacks are used as roofing, a wall or flooring by the recipients.

- VP Leni assures that the OVP will visit other affected areas in Quezon and Bicol. OVP relief efforts are also ongoing in Cagayan and Isabela; updates to follow regarding calls for rescue received.

- OVP currently has teams in Cagayan and Isabela, Bicol, and Quezon, for relief ops after recent typhoons. The office also has teams in Iloilo and Lanao del Sur, in line with its COVID-19 response ops.
