Sanjay Subrahmanyam, Kluge Chair in Countries and Cultures of the South, discusses how the first Portuguese voyage to India in 1497 coincided with the Portuguese attempt to forcibly convert its Jewish residents in the kingdom.
Speaker Biography: Sanjay Subrahmanyam is an Indian historian and the holder of Navin and Pratima Doshi Chair of Indian History at UCLA which he joined in 2004. In 2012, Subrahmanyam won the Infosys Prize for Humanities for his path-breaking contribution to history.
