What are GCSEs?
Ever wondered what exactly GCSEs are? Well, this video explains. Basically, GCSE stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education. It’s the part of the National Curriculum taught to pupils aged 14 to 16 in years 10 and 11. It also includes exams, the results of which have a significant bearing on a child’s future career.
But there is a lot more to it than that: what is KS4, which subjects are compulsory, what are ‘entitlement areas’, how many GCSEs must children take, how are exams graded, which subjects include coursework as part of their final grade, how long is a course and just how important are GCSEs?
You’ll find the answers to all these questions in this video. Alternatively, you can read a written version here: https://www.educationquizzes.com/knowledge-bank/what-are-gcses/
