This is a western music, gunfighter ballad, cowboy song. The lyrics and music melody are written and sang by Bob Terry. Along with Johnie Terry on bass and Chance Terry on lead guitar.
Gunfighter Ballads were very popular in the 1950s and 1960s. Marty Robbins, Kay Arnold, Tompall Glaser, Tex Owen, Don Robertson, Hal Blair, Burt F Bacharach, Hal David and Augusto Alguero Alguero. All wrote magnificent gunfighter ballads that were huge hits. Marty's Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs album released in September of 1959 reached #1 in both the country and pop music charts at the start of 1960 and won the Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Recording the following year. In 2017, Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or artistically significant. These type of songs still have a very large following. The live version recorded at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo of the Western song My Pony and Me written and performed by Bob Terry was released here on the WesternsOnTheWeb YT channel on June 26, 2012 and as of January 7, 2022 has received 6,486,545 views.
