Emily in Paris is an incredibly popular Netflix series around the world… but the majority of French people really dislike it. Not only is it unrealistic, painting a storybook picture of life in Paris, but it also tends to depict France and French people in a stereotypical and inauthentic way.

Season 1 of Emily in Paris featured almost zero French conversation, but that seems to have changed a bit in seasons 2 and 3. In today’s episode, we’ll watch one of the show’s French dialogues together. I’ll analyze the scene to give you some cultural insight, and break down the vocabulary for you so you can improve your understanding of real spoken French.
