"2112" - Rush (1976) HD FLAC

RIP Neil Peart September 12, 1952 - January 7, 2020
Heartbroken for another loss of part of my life for over 40 years.

"2112" was the epic title track on Rush's fourth album which was released in the spring of 1976. I came to Rush through this album and besides turning me on to a band that would remain one of my favorites for almost 4 decades, this record pushed me deeper into hard rock and progressive rock.

I have played it, as I guess all serious Rush fans have, literally hundreds of times since I first heard it. There were some massively popular records back then, but the only other record I can think of where it seems everyone was playing for years in my hometown when I was in high school was maybe Boston's debut.

Rush would release many more fine rock albums, but they would all always seem to point somehow back to 2112. In a career filled with fantastic albums, this remains their greatest achievement. It was almost surreal to hear it back in '76 (it was like music from another world (Megadon, maybe!?), listening to it now after decades of heavy rotation...it's still got the power to produce a few goosebumps! :-)

Thank you RUSH for all those nights of carefree youth spent with the power and beauty of 2112 washing over us in waves.

The video? Wow. After "Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-9" and "Atom Heart Mother", I knew the epics were work. This one ended up much more difficult than I anticipated, much worse than those earlier ones, mainly because it is such an extremely dynamic track. I mean, it is riddled with so many unusual passages, it's fast, then slow, then faster, then extremely slow, then extremely fast and there are mini movements within the movements...the tempo changes and structure made for an extremely challenging effort. The track demands massive editing to work. I promise you this track will make you work to video it!

As with the other epic videos, it was a nightmare to work with a video of such length; the timings are brutal to keep correct throughout, it's difficult to get everything right since it takes so long to render (and each render is always a bit different!), and of course, the video is so long it's a challenge to make it varied enough.

It took me forever to get the thing to the point where the sequences were structured and the timings were close (each time I rendered this full video for timings, some sections would be perfect and others off..and I could never get each section correct at once!)...long enough that by then I was too burned out to create some different footage, and it would really be so easy at this point....just work some different things and plug them in where things are a bit repetitive (and I wanted to try some cool variations on the stuff already in)....but damn, I'm tired.....and as per normal, I ain't gettin' paid.....so, this is my "2112". I hope you enjoy it.

Video snippets of the band are from the Blu-ray
