How to Fix Bad Data Before Importing into Salesforce

One of the most common issues we see with new Salesforce clients is bad data.

For example:

• Names entered as phone numbers
• Columns misaligned in CSV files
• Inconsistent formatting across records
• Missing required fields

We recently worked with a client importing 10,000 contact records where some “name” fields were actually phone numbers.

Before importing anything, we had to sanitize the data.

There are typically two paths:

• The client cleans the data before sending it
• We run scripts and perform structured cleanup

Once the data is properly sanitized, the import process becomes smooth and reliable.

Messy data is common. It is not fatal.

If you are worried your CSV is too chaotic to bring into Salesforce, there is almost always a path forward.

Reach out if you want help preparing your data properly.
