PVA bag fishing + 3 other great PVA fishing presentations

Here’s Matt’s ultimate guide to PVA carp rigs: solid PVA bag rigs, stringers, parachute bags and PVA sticks.

PVA is a very versatile material that allows you to create a variety of carp rig presentations for different fishing situations. There’s more to PVA than just solid PVA bag rigs so in this video, you will find step by step instructions to tie four different PVA rig presentations.

1) Simple PVA stringer presentations: A good starting point on any water and at any time of year. The extra freebies will increase the food signal emitting from the rig. They make an excellent choice if smaller carp or nuisances species are present as whole baits are less attractive to small fish. They are suitable for fishing open water marks, margins and presenting onto hard gravel spots or onto firm silt. I wouldn’t use them when fishing in weed or very soft silt.
2) Solid PVA bags: They are very useful if you are trying to present a bait at any range, tangle free with guaranteed presentation. Solid bag rigs are also a great choice for fishing in weed and any situation when you are not exactly sure what you are fishing over. They are a great way of getting a small amount of bait and liquid onto a very tight spot. If nuisance species are present then avoid the addition of small food items such as pellet and crumb. Stick to whole baits and use some sharp sand to help pack out the bag so you achieve a good shape.
3) A parachute bag is a solid pva bag but the lead is fished outside the bag. Parachute bags are an excellent choice when fishing over light weed, especially when you don’t have to cast very far. They are also a good option for fishing over soft silt because they will land the lead very gently. They can be used in a bait boat or dropped from a rowing boat. Same rules applies when nuisance species are present for solid PVA bags.
4) I like to use PVA sticks when casting to short/medium range marks, onto firm silt. The stick helps to land the rig but doesn’t interfere with the drop speed of the lead when I’m feeling for the donk. It also boosts the attraction around the hook bait. I would always avoid them if nuisance species are present.
