Aero India - 2017
Asia’s biggest aviation show Aero India 2017 kicked off at the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Yelahanka base in Bengaluru on Tuesday. The eleventh edition of five-day aerospace and defence event saw some thrilling aerobatic displays by fighter jets including the indigenously-developed Tejas aircraft.
As many as 549 companies are participating this year with 53 fighter aircraft on display.
Fighters jet like Sweden’s SAAB Gripen, India’s Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, American F-16 Falcon and the French Rafale teared through the sky and displayed host of aerobatic manoeuvres.
The Indian Air Force also inducted its first indigenously developed airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) system.
After having skipped two editions of Aero India, the Surya Kiran Aerobatics team (SKAT) of the Indian Air Force was back on display with a new jet-powered advanced Hawk aircraft and performed 500th public display since its formation in 1996.

All You Need to Know About Aero India 2017
▶ The focus will be on Make in India initiative
As many as 279 firms from across the world and 270 Indian firms will be participating in the show and signing deals that will further propagate Prime Minister Modi’s Make in India initiative. Some of the firms slated to sign on the dotted line are Boeing Co and Airbus.
▶ There will be representatives from across the world
There will be exhibitors from different parts of the world, including United States, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Singapore, UAE, Australia, Spain, South Korea, Canada and more.
▶ NETRA will be handed over to the Air Force
On the very first day of the show, NETRA, an Embraer 145 with Indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C), will be handed over to the Indian Air Force.
▶ It will be Surya Kiran team’s 500th performance
The Surya Kiran team, which is an aerobatics demonstration team of the Indian Air Force formed in 1996, will be conducting their 500th performance on Tuesday.
▶ First indigenous multi-role helicopter will be showcased
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will be showcasing a number of their key products at Aero India 2017 but most eyes will be on the mock-up of India’s first indigenous multi-role helicopter that will be making its debut from the company.
