Intro
Hyliion is one of the most exciting companies going public in 2020. I know its new to a lot of investors and there is a lot to learn about this company. I want to simplify all of these things for you so you’re informed and ready for the upcoming IPO at the end of third quarter 2020.

Hyliion is going public at the end of the third quarter of 2020 under ticker $HYLN.

What is Tortoise Acquisition Corp?
Tortoise is a SPAC – a special purpose acquisition company that trades on the stock market under the ticker “$SHLL”. Tortoise Acquisition Corp is a shell company. Shell companies sound strange because they don’t have any business operations, but they’re really quite simple when you get down to it.

Shell companies like Tortoise Acquisition Company collect investors’ money and focus on helping get private companies to IPO. Normally, getting an IPO done for a private company is a long difficult and complicated process. Shell companies make it quick and easy.

Shell companies typically have an area of expertise that they stay in to pick companies to help go public. Tortoise Acquisition company was formed by a team of energy industry executives, so they are specializing in looking for renewable energy companies to take public. That is where Hyliion comes in...

What is Hyliion?
Hyliion was founded by Thomas Healy in 2015. Hyliion is the third company that Healy founded and he’s only 28 years old. Hyliion will get $560 million from the merger which will cover the companies development and scale up its products.

Hyliion has two product lines:

1) Hybrid Electric Solution – turns existing diesel-powered truck into a hybrid which increases its range and efficiency. It can be fitted onto any Class 8 truck.
2) Hypertruck ERX – complete electric drivetrain for Class 8 trucks. Designed to be recharged while the truck is driving via a natural-gas-powered generator or a hydrogen fuel cell. The Electric drive motor can add a helping hand adding power and torque to allow the diesel block to work more efficiently and the electric drive motor can be recharged while its working.

Is Hyliion the same as Nikola?
The companies are similar but not the same and that’s where you start to get a lot of your comparisons. New, startup companies in the last few years, both going public through mergers with shell corporations, both focused on renewable energy.

There are some notable differences:

Nikola is going to manufacture battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell trucks. They’re producing and selling themselves.

The Hyliion Advantage
The biggest advantage of Hyliion is this:
- They’re putting new technology which will save companies money into an existing model. Hyliion’s technology can be fitted onto current trucks which reduces costs of overhauling fleets. This provides extreme compatibility.
- They don’t have to build out new fuel stations like Nikola or Tesla.
- They’re already moving product and have over 2million miles driven with some Hybrid Electric Solutions

Is Hyliion a Buy?

How Do I Feel About Hyliion?
Hyliion is coming to market via IPO at the perfect time. We’ve reached the height of interest all time for investors to want to be in on green solutions, especially for driving. There may be enough room for Tesla, Nikola, Hyliion and more to come along. It’s disel truck companies that need to be worried.

My key takeaway on Hyllion is how easy it is going to be to adapt into the market. Hyliion doesn’t even need to have its Hypertruck ERX built out right now. They’re working on it and will be able to with funding, however they can already move their Hybrid Electric Solutions.
