8th Attempt to Achieve Declared 750+ km Glider Flight - Advanced Cross-Country - Chess In The Air
Severe thunderstorms, over-development, rain and hail, turbulence, and other hazards have thwarted my prior attempts to complete a pre-declared 750 km glider flight: this is attempt number eight - will I succeed this time around? A successful flight would earn the coveted 750 Diploma from the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale), the World Air Sports Association. Only 57 such diplomas have been issued in the United States to date.
The flight was on Aug 7, 2020 and originated from the Boulder Municipal Airport (KBDU) in Colorado, United States. The glider is a Ventus 2cxT high performance sailplane from Schempp-Hirth with a wingspan of 18 meters. The full flight trace can be found here: https://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-3.0/gliding/flightinfo.html?dsId=8086212
The music at the end of the video is a track from the artist Aaron Mist titled "Center of the Universe" from the album "New Era of Me". It is available on Free Music Archive and licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 License.
It takes a lot of effort to create this type of video. If you enjoy it, please share, comment, like, and subscribe! Your engagement makes a real difference and will motivate me to produce more content like this. There aren't many gliding videos out there that provide so much commentary and detail to convey the art and science of cross-country flying. I'd also be happy about constructive ideas to make these type of videos even better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
