India Allows Chinese Investment Again? Big FDI Policy Shift Explained | Press Note 3 Change

India has partially eased Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) restrictions for Chinese-linked entities, marking a major shift in its investment policy introduced after the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.

The earlier restrictions were imposed under Press Note 3, requiring government approval for investments from countries sharing land borders with India.

Under the new framework:

• Up to 10% Chinese ownership in global firms may be allowed under the automatic route
• Investment approvals from land-border countries may be processed within 60 days
• Fast-track sectors include electronics, solar components, batteries, and capital goods

The move aims to boost manufacturing under Make in India while maintaining national security safeguards.
