The HVAC Receiver Dryer, Accumulator and Desiccant in most cases is a type of filter. However, they way they operate is very different from each other. Receiver driers, often called filter driers, look like small metal cans with an input and output port. They are only used in HVAC systems that use expansion valves. Receiver driers are located at the high pressure section of the refrigerant plumbing, normally in the pipes between the condenser outlet and the expansion valve, sometimes also connected directly to the condenser. The Receiver Dryer always holds liquid refrigerant. Receiver/driers serve three main functions.
1) They are storage containers for oil and refrigerant for use during periods of low demand. Hence they are called receivers, as they receive the unused refrigerant during the different demand cycles of the HVAC system.
2) Almost all receiver driers also contain a filter that can trap dirt and particles inside the HVAC system.
3) Receiver driers also use a desiccant, which is used to absorb moisture trapped inside the system during ...
