HIGHLIGHTS - Bahrain Vs India Second Half - Asian Cup 2011
UAE coach Srecko Katanec has said his side will have to fire at 120 per cent against Iraq, but added he is confident that if they play like they did against North Korea in their tournament opener they will be in a good position to inflict a second defeat on the defending champions.
Katanec seemed optimistic about his team's chances against an Iraq side that is currently fourth in Group D, having lost its opening match 2-1 to Iran. But the Slovenian refused to be drawn into the long-running debate over the lack of goals from his first-choice strikers Ismail Matar and Ahmad Khalil, who squandered chance after chance during the goalless draw with North Korea.
The Whites face Iraq at the Al Rayyan Stadium and Katanec said: "We played well in the first game and we are ready for the second game. We know Iraq and they know us well.
"We are all ready except Theyab Awana who is still injured. There is a good atmosphere in the team and we hope we can stay good. I hope we can play well and want to win the game.
"Every team has its weak points and I don't want to discuss that and each coach has to analyse their opponents and we play against the champions of Asia who are a very expert team with some intelligent players and they play a lot of time together.
"I expect a difficult game because they play differently. They are strong from free-kicks and corners and play long balls and we have some other qualities. We are smaller [physically] but we have the agility, so we will see. I expect my team to be composed and we must give 120 per cent and look to keep possession. We have quality to win the game. I won't talk about other coaches I don't care about that. I only take care about my team."
Katanec says both sides know each other well and he hopes his side won't repeat the mistakes the made when they faced Iraq in last year's Gulf Cup. That match also ended in a goalless draw.
But Katanec added: "We played them in the Gulf Cup and we made some mistakes which we shouldn't repeat, but today is another day, another story which starts at 0-0. They have Mahmoud Younes in front who is good.
"Emad Mohammed is good on the right and Nashat Akram - they are super players, we know each others strengths and weaknesses and I just hope we will come out and be aggressive. "We might know everything before the game, but some players might make mistakes that we might not expect that could change things. This game is difficult for us, but also for them."
Katanec has urged Emiratis in Doha to turn up and rally behind the team.
"For players it's good if they see a big crowd and I hope we will have more fans. Normally, the players give more if they get better support because the players play for the crowd and without the crowd it's not the same," he added.
"If we create as many chances like against North Korea, I will be satisfied. If we create we will score."
His skipper Subait Khater revealed there was good harmony in the UAE camp.
"Our players are capable and have performed well. The older players play with younger ones and there is harmony. They are small in age but big in performance.
"Each match is different among others and scoring depends on many factors. I do hope we can get the goals and are able to at least progress to the next stage even if we don't score."
