We checked out some pre-incan salt mines. The Salinas De Maras are thousands of individual salt ponds or pools that are filled with a naturally occurring salt water and left to evaporate in the sun of the sacred valley. Each is owned by a family of the community and has been in operation since before 1430.

Totaling $11 USD this trip won’t break the bank if you choose to do it without a tour and with a little extra adventure.
