PCT 2020 | SECTION HIKING THE PACIFIC CREST TRAIL | Section L in Washington | Episode 1: Day 1-2 of my PCT Section L Hike in Washington

PCT Mile 2591.9, Rainy Pass Trailhead to PCT Mile 2612.6, Glacier Pass & Tentsite

Since all of my original plans this summer got cancelled thanks to COVID (backpacking the Grand Canyon and Hiking up Mount St Helens with a geologist), I decided to stay closer to home and solo hike my favorite section of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington for 8 days: Section L.

Section L starts from Rainy Pass off of Highway 20 in the North Cascades and heads north for 62 miles to the Northern Terminus at the Canadian Border. Once I tagged the Northern Terminus at the Canadian Border, I’d turn around and head back south to Rainy Pass.

For all eight days, I solo hiked with the heaviest food carry I’ve ever carried my pack. On the first day, I packed up my pack with all of my gear and food and headed out to the trail. On the first night, I camped just below Cutthroat Pass. On Day 2, I hiked from Cutthroat Pass to Glacier Pass, just 2.5 miles past Brush Creek and camped for the evening by myself.

Total Mileage for Day 1 & Day 2: 20.75 miles
Total Ascent: 4,360 feet
Total Descent: 3,668 feet
