The History of the Disneyland Monorail - Walking with Walt #3

This week we look at the history of the Disneyland Monorail and it predecessor the 30 inch gauge Viewliner train. The monorail has evolved over the years with older trains now running in Las Vegas.

The Disneyland ALWEG Monorail opened on June 14, 1959, as a sightseeing attraction in Tomorrowland in Disneyland, along with the Disneyland Expansion with the Matterhorn Bobsleds, the Submarine Voyage, the expanded version of Autopia, and the Motor Boat Cruise.

In 1962 ALWEG built a second system in Seattle for the World Fair. Unlike the Disneyland train, the Seattle train was a real interurban transport system, in spit of also being a demonstration system.
