Lomond School, Helensburgh, Scotland

With a unique setting in the scenic coastal town of Helensburgh, on the edge of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Lomond School is the west of Scotland’s only day and boarding school, welcoming young people from age 3 to 18.

As a leading co-educational HMC independent school, Lomond offers an academic education that stretches and extends young people to their full potential with a strong extra-curricular programme of sport, music, drama and outdoor activity. As a small school and boarding house, pupils are known as individuals and anyone visiting will get a sense of the warm, welcoming and happy environment which exists across the school.
Marking its 40th anniversary, Lomond School has launched 40 new day and boarding scholarships to widen access to talented pupils from Junior 5 to Senior 6.

Lomond School’s unique position in Scottish education is underlined by its co-educational boarding house, Burnbrae, located 100 metres from the main teaching block in nearby scenic Campbell Street. Built in 2003, this is home to up to sixty students aged from 8 years to 18 years and is characterised by:

• A warm family ethos
• En-suite bathrooms in the twin and single bedrooms
• Spacious social and recreational facilities
• Excellent standards of care and supervision
• Flexible approach
• Full programme of activities
• Airport, visa and guardian services
• Strong academic and pastoral support
• Professionally trained staff
• Excellent e-mail/IT/communication systems

Boarding life is busy but rewarding. Boarders have a full day beginning with daily line up at 7.50am. Boarders play a full part in the life of the school and are at the forefront of much that goes on in terms of sport, music, drama and expeditions.

Weekends see boarders participate in their own extra-curricular activities which range from sports fixtures, to cinema trips, theatre outings, outdoor education and residential experiences. The pupils themselves generate many activities and can express ideas for the smooth running of the house through year groups committees, food committee and an overall House committee. The Heads of House (S6 pupils) play an active role in promoting pupil involvement.
