Zac Jackson on starting Dillon Gabriel over Joe Flacco, fixing the Browns offense & Quinshon Judkins

Zac Jackson believes the Browns made the right call rolling with Dillon Gabriel over Joe Flacco, and it could be the spark this offense has been desperate for. Flacco’s experience can’t be denied, but his lack of mobility and inconsistency have held Cleveland back. Gabriel, on the other hand, gives Kevin Stefanski a chance to expand the playbook—mixing in tempo, RPO looks, and moving the pocket. Jackson points out that while Gabriel will make rookie mistakes, his ability to keep defenses honest with his legs outweighs what the Browns lose by sitting the veteran.

Fixing the Browns’ offense goes beyond the quarterback, though. Jackson highlights how the offensive line has to do a better job protecting whoever is under center, and the wide receivers need to finally start making contested catches. Too many drives have stalled because of drops or breakdowns in protection, and that has wasted opportunities for both Flacco and Gabriel. The goal now is to simplify things, build confidence with quick completions, and let Gabriel grow into the role without putting the entire weight of the offense on his shoulders.

One bright spot is rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, who has shown flashes that remind Cleveland fans of Nick Chubb’s early years. Jackson believes Judkins is already proving he can be the foundation of this offense, with the vision and toughness to handle big workloads. Pairing Judkins’ power with Gabriel’s mobility could create a backfield that changes how defenses line up against the Browns. If that chemistry develops quickly, Cleveland’s offense might finally find an identity that it’s been missing for far too long.
