Compression Test of Royal Enfield Motorcycle Engine

To determine whether my EFI Royal Enfield motorcycle model G5 needed decarbonisation after 20,000 miles, a compression test was done. The compression pressure was 80 to 85 psi which is slightly below the Service Manual values of 90 to 110 psi. It appears that there is not a large carbon build up and it does not need decarbonisation.

The effect of engine temperature, cold vs hot, on compression was also investigated. Cold engine gave much lower compression readings of 30 to 40 psi.

Engine must be fully warmed before doing this test.
