Officer Mike Allison at Tin Roof arresting Get Sideway’s bassist Jeff Allen

Here’s what happened last Friday night at Tin Roof. So many people have asked and we’ve been cleared to talk about it. Jeff can’t but we can.

Security at the club tried to kick Lauren and James' wife, Sara out with all of the other patrons after our show was over and they clearing the bar out. We notified them that they are our wives. They are not to be kicked out. The security at the club insisted they go outside without their belongings (wallets, cell phones, etc.) which were on our stage.

As they begin to escort them outside Jeff simply stops them and says they are not to be kicked out that they are with us. That’s when officer Mike Allison with Birmingham PD came running from the door telling Jeff to shut up or he’s going to jail. They began to bicker and Mike charged the stage and started choking Jeff. His Sergeant, Harless, did his best to pull him off of Jeff, whispering to him that he was out of line and to stop this immediately.

Officer Mike Allison WOULD NOT STOP and wrestled Jeff to the ground. Jeff never resisted arrest as you can see from every video. Mike got on top of him, never once telling him he was under arrest and instructed him to roll over onto his stomach. Jeff couldn’t roll over bc the officer was on his chest. He eventually got Jeff on his stomach and the officer unnecessarily cuffed Jeff.

Tin Roof security members assist the officer in getting Jeff to the ground as you can see in the video. They then walk him outside. That’s where more BS happens.

There are multiple video cameras going but Mason Frost’s video shows how outrageous and Outrageous the arrests were. They arrest a black gentlemen for simply doing the same thing Mason and several other white people are doing, filming the conduct of this officer.

We need your help in finding this guy. His name is Roi and he works as an adjuster for Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you know anyone that can track him down we have plenty of video that exonerates him and we’d like to speak with him.

FACTS:
1-The management at the club requested that he not arrest Jeff as you can clearly hear in the video.
2- We smelled alcohol on the officer’s breath.
3- Both officers are smacking gum in the video, not that chewing gum serves as proof that Officer Mike Allison was drinking but it sure is a tell.
4- Both officers were employees of Tin Roof and shouldn’t make an arrest unless the club management requests them to.
They were trying to kick our wives out onto the streets of downtown Birmingham without their purses-not exactly a safe move. This is reprehensible. Everyone who saw it happen agrees that this officer was OUT OF CONTROL. We have numerous witnesses but would like more if you were there. To think that this officer carries a badge to protect and serve is shocking at best.

Sergeant Harless could have stopped this at any time, as he is officer Mike Allison’s superior, and he did not. Tin Roof management has told me that they have let Mike Allison go in the wake of this, but I have spoken with numerous musicians and former patrons of Tin Roof and they all attest to this behavior out of this officer.

Please share so that something is done about this internally at Bham PD. This officer Mike Allison is a disgrace to the fine men and women of the Birmingham Police Department who risk their lives every day to protect us. He’s a bad apple and going to get a good officer hurt or even killed. He has a pattern of this behavior going back 10 years. And please help us find Roi as he is INNOCENT as well.
