In this video I walk through the design and installation of our whole home water filtration system for our Oklahoma barndominium.

This system was designed to handle a family of 7 while keeping maintenance simple and protecting appliances, fixtures, and plumbing from hard water and sediment.

The setup includes:
• 5 micron sediment filtration
• Backwashing whole-home carbon filtration
• 50 micron spin-down safety filter
• Whole-home water softener
• Dedicated filtered drinking water lines
• Isolation valves for easier maintenance and future upgrades

I also explain:
• Why I bypassed the toilets and outdoor spigot
• Why drinking water branches off before the softener
• Trunk-and-branch plumbing layout
• PEX connection types and installation choices
• Lessons learned during startup and troubleshooting

And yes… things definitely didn’t go perfectly the first time:
• Leaks during pressurization
• Carbon media blowing into the spin-down filter
• A drain hose trying to escape like a dying snake 😅
