You’ve probably seen a ton of ads for starting a social media marketing agency before.

Maybe you even sat through a webinar or two for these digital marketing courses and you’re on the edge.

I was one of them. And so was my business partner.

We were just drooling over the idea of just landing a few clients pay us a ridiculous retainer every month for running what seemed to be a few simple Facebook Ads

And we went all in - we had appointment setters cold calling small businesses, we had a dedicated white label fulfilling the online marketing for these clients, we bought multiple social media marketing courses, etc.

But after months of failure, we decided to throw in the towel and close the doors.

When SMMA started to become popular back in 2014/2015, it was a good opportunity

Business owners were completely new to marketing on social platforms so it was easy for agency owners to get their foot in the door and land clients whether you were good at it or not

But there lies the problem, because if you think about yourself, you’re probably interested in doing this to make money, not because you’re passionate about running Facebook Ads for the rest of your life.

So what happens?

You have people trying to take 13k from business owners and then don't deliver any results.

So what happens to all these business owners that fired the SMMA that they were working with?

They’re gonna be very angry with you, they feel like they’ve been scammed and they’re associate digital marketers with scammers.

THIS is the market you’d be getting yourself into.

All the business owners that you’d be targeting have been screwed

You actually need to be really good at the social media ads you’ll be running, which is pretty hard

Marketing, advertising, and writing the sales copy for the ads themselves is a completely separate skill to master or at least get adequate at if you want to actually get these business owners results.

So there’s really high competition and the lowest demand, digital marketers have a horrible rep with business owners, and you have to learn way too many skills at once to be successful. So that begs the question: why are their so many ads for these courses?

The answer? It’s an easy pitch to sell you a course.

So if you’re in their position, Why put in the extra effort to scale the agency, when you can just make a course, play on people’s desires to get rich quick and make money online, etc.

So do I recommend you start a social media marketing agency, a Facebook ads agency, or whatever?... No. Absolutely not.

So what business should you start then? I don't know.

Everyone is different. Everyone has different preferences and skills.
