Anka-3 UCAV Turkiye gets closer on its maiden flight
After carrying out its first taxi test on April 26, 2023, the new Anka-3 combat drone (UCAV) designed by Turkiye Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) is getting closer to its maiden flight.
Unlike the Anka-1 and Anka-2 which had a conventional design, the Anka-3 adopted a flying wing design , was not equipped with a tailless fin and adopted a turbofan engine.
With this design, the Anka-3 has low radar visibility, providing stealth characteristics that enhance its ability to operate undetected by adversaries.
Anka-3 is equipped with line-of-sight and beyond line-of-sight (LOS/BLOS) communication capabilities , which are achieved through satellite control.
This feature ensures reliable and efficient communication between the drone and its ground operator, even when operating over long distances.
The Anka-3 will have the same avionics architecture and ground control station as the Anka-1 and Anka-2 attack drones.
In terms of specifications, the Anka-3 has a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 6,500 kg. It can carry a payload of up to 1200 kg, including weapons or surveillance systems.
Anka-3 is capable of flying to a height of 12,192 m, with a maximum speed of Mach 0.7, and a flight endurance of up to 10 hours.
In addition to its internal weapons station, the Anka-3 also features an external weapon. Among the weapons that can be mounted on the outer hanger are the TEBER-82 and TEBER-81 multi-purpose bombs with guidance kits.
TUSAS also exhibited the Anka-3 at the Paris Air Show 2023 in France, but only appeared as a scale model.
