241-Z-361 Tank Video 1 of 4

This video footage was taken in 1999 during an investigation to characterize the sludge remaining in the 241-Z-361 tank and document the condition of the tank’s interior. The camera pan and tilt angles were captured continuously during the video investigation. The video camera was inserted through a vertical pipe, also known as a riser, in the middle of the tank. The footage begins with the lowering of the camera into the vertical pipe while looking straight down to the surface of the sludge. The camera is then tilted slowly to show another vertical pipe in the tank. The camera is then panned to view the intersection of the wall and inside of the top of the tank. The initial pan is interrupted by a change in the tilt of the camera to inspect the side of the wall and surface of the sludge. In general, the camera is panned 360 degrees at a particular tilt and then panned back around at a different tilt. This process was repeated until the entire interior of the tank and surface of the sludge was visually inspected. Points of interest observed during the inspection are the level and surface of the sludge, conditions of the sides and top of the tank, waste sample bottles that have been disposed of, and the conditions of the inlet and outlet pipes on each end of the tank.
