Ozempic Face, Decoded (Part 2): What the Research Actually Says You Can Do
EVIDENCE IN THE CUP — PART 2
A thing worth adding that couldn't fit in the video.
When patients see content like this, the first instinct is often to stop the medication or panic-book a filler appointment. Neither is the right first move. The right first move is a conversation — with your prescriber, before anything changes.
Here is what that conversation can look like. Save this for your next appointment.
→ "What is my current titration schedule, and is there room to slow it down?" → "How much weight loss per month are we targeting, and is that pace sustainable for my skin and muscle mass?" → "What are you tracking besides the number on the scale — lean mass, protein intake, strength?" → "What is your plan if I develop hair shedding or significant facial changes?" → "Do you routinely refer patients on GLP-1s to dermatology?"
If the answer to most of those is a shrug, that is useful information about your care — not a referendum on the medication.
Two things from the video worth underlining here, because they are the ones patients miss: telogen effluvium after rapid weight loss is not permanent damage to the follicles, and GLP-1s appear to help some inflammatory skin conditions (psoriasis, wound healing). Both matter. Both get flattened by the before-and-after photo framing.
If someone you know is on one of these medications and watching their face change, send them both parts.
The truth is in the receipts. Stay curious. Depth beats noise.
Educational purposes only. Not medical advice.
