Lisa Nakamura Durrell: Two Cultures. One Identity.

We don’t usually stop and ask questions like this…we just assume cultures are different and leave it at that.

But Lisa had a really honest moment here — she realized she actually carries both Vietnamese and Japanese cultures in who she is.

The openness, warmth, and welcoming energy from her Vietnamese side…and the thoughtfulness, respect, and attention to detail from her Japanese side.

Two very different expressions of care — but both rooted in hospitality and how you show up for others.

It’s a really nice reminder that you don’t have to choose one identity. You can grow up surrounded by different cultures, learn from all of them, and naturally become a mix of both.

And sometimes… you don’t even realize it until someone asks the question.
