THE EPIPHANY WAS A BETROTHAL

In yet another fulfilment of Jewish custom, one of the many layers of meaning in Christ's baptism was that he was betrothed to His bride, the Church, by purifying Himself in the waters of the Jordan. By this, Christ was actually bringing the Jewish people back to their purification through the Jordan before they crossed into the Promised Land, therefore paralleling their own marriage to their homeland.
