Making an early Edwardian corset
Hi everyone!
Welcome to a new project. I am making a new set of early Edwardian undergarments. I have decided to make a new corset and a set of combinations, aiming to place them around 1899-1903. I particularly like this period as the 'pigeon breast' wasn't at its highest yet. My end goal is to make a half-mourning dress, inspired by this time period.
I have an inspiration Pinterest board here: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/catscostumery/edwardian-undergarments/
And here is the link of the pattern I purchased: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/161524898/ref-ed8-s-curve-edwardian-corset-pattern?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=ed8&ref=sr_gallery-1-5&organic_search_click=1&cns=1
This pattern is based on an extant corset in Atelier Sylphe's collection. The original is made of one layer of fabric, with only one metal bone, which makes it quite lightweight. However, I flatlined my pale yellow cotton sateen with coutil. I really enjoyed working with this corset, I think the shape is absolutely phenomenal, even without tight lacing. I believe with some padding, it will absolutely give me the silhouette I am after.
Here are some good resources for corsetry supplies:

Here is the busk tutorial I mentioned: https://www.sewcurvy.com/buskfastner.html
Stay tuned for a video about making the combinations!
