Santa Cruz vs Rivera FULL FIGHT: February 16, 2019 - PBC on FOX

In our main attraction for the night, undefeated WBA Featherweight World Champion Leo Santa Cruz retained his title while infant of a hometown crown and defeated Rafael Rivera by way of unanimous decision live on PBC on FOX, from Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.

Santa Cruz set the tone for the night as he released body-shivering hooks and robust uppercuts to establish distance between he and Rivera. Seemingly prepared for war, Rivera countered from the pockets and exchanged with Santa Cruz to transition into the second and third round.

Using the middle rounds as time to outwork Rivera, Santa Cruz focused more on delivering chilling shots to his body and continued to control the pace of the night as Rivera failed to maintain his load of activity.
As they arrived into the final championship rounds, Santa Cruz challenged all shots thrown by Rivera by either countering or smothering his punches with his own arsenal of skill and accuracy shortly after.

Santa Cruz continued to control the pace of the fight, he began to use more of his boxing ability that his father and trainer, Jose Santa Cruz, who has been battling cancer, was encouraging him to exhibit.

"I want to thank all the fans that came out tonight to support me,” said Santa Cruz. “I tried to do my best and do what I could to give them a great fight. I would have loved to have been even better, but he's a really tough and solid opponent. I hit him hard to the body and head very well, but he didn't go down.”
 
"My father means the world to me,” said Santa Cruz. “When I step in the ring, I say that I don't want to let my dad down. I want to keep him happy so he can keep fighting his cancer.”

According to CompuBox, the 1,350 punches thrown by Santa Cruz were the second most of his career.
 
Santa Cruz retains his WBA Featherweight Title and defeats Rafael Rivera by way of unanimous decision.
