µCT scan of core from Decaturville impact structure.

This core was retrieved from the North family core collections in the central uplift area of Decaturville impact structure. The exact location in the central uplift area is unknown. The bright clasts are mostly chert. The duller clasts are likely shale. The scans show that blast comminution is a key process in formation of impact breccias, but how much energy is required to make the matrix? Hypervelocity impacts are unlike most other Earth processes.

Special thanks to collaborative partners Jim Schiffbauer and Tara Selly, University of Missouri, Geological Sciences and Missouri X-Ray Microanalysis Core.
